This show is a mess, but a fun mess. Love that you both are willing to poke fun when it absolutely needs to be done 😂

28:24 Rumple "woke up" from the curse in the Pilot at the end of the episode when he heard Emma say her name. I believe IMDb trivia even confirms it. This is because Snow promised Rumple the name of her and Charming's child's name in exchange for knowing what Regina planned to do to them with the curse and how it involved their child. Only they didn't know at the time that Rumple created the Dark Curse in the first place. Rumple essentially manipulates Regina into using the curse for his own gain because he knows Bae was sent to a world without magic, and I think he knew the curse would require him to give up the thing he loved the most; only A) I don't think he loved anyone or anything and/or B) he's too much of a coward to do it, and he would've rather had Regina do it.
I don't know if a button is ever put on it, but I know that fans have speculated that because Rumple can see the future, he knew the Savior, who Emma turns out to be, would be the one to ultimately break the curse; so he basically put a fail-safe for himself into the curse to wake himself up by having Emma, the Savior, say her name/confirming her identity. This is where I like to think the mythology/folklore about giving one's name comes in: both Snow and Emma had to freely give and/or agree to give Emma's name for it to work (though they didn't know what purpose it was for).

Over the course of the show, flashbacks show more of their time together. Belle even says she's been with Rumple for a few months, so the show establishes that some time has passed since he took her/she offered to go to how their story "ends," at least within the context of the flashbacks in this episode.

One of my favourite episodes of the season. Mr Gold became "awake" in episode 1 when he heard Emma's name, which is why he was desperate for her name in the flashbacks from that episode. Both the viewer and Regina would have realized that he must be awake in episode 2 when he made the callback to their deal in the Enchanted Forest that she would do what he says when he says "please". The fear is evident on her face in that scene. But even though there are little "teasers" it's not officially established or even mentioned until this episode. It's confirmed for the viewer when he is clearly talking about Belle while assaulting Mo. The scene in the prison this episode is meant to be her confirming for herself and I guess kind of putting them on pretty even ground in Storeybrooke, to make the story more compelling.
For some reason I love the scene in the convenience store with Gold buying the rope and duct tape and still finding time to tease David about his dilemma.
I don't care about the girls night because they never all hang out again and we hardly ever see Ashley again.

So from the very first episode God has been awake or at least half awake it's only when he hears Emma's name is when he's fully awake because he made it where if he hears his her name being said he will be fully awake now if I remember correctly I believe he took some type of potion perhaps to have him not be completely asleep and just be loosely awake I'm not exactly sure but I know he took a potion a couple of times for many different things and I believe that was possibly one of the reasons on why one of the potions he took what's for.

Oh boy ya'll don't know HALF of the drama/connection Rumple has with Regina and her family.
