I was a young wife and mother when the seriously bad recession happened in the late 70's. Food was over the moon expensive, we had gas lines and designated days based on whether our license plates ended with an odd or even number. Both my husband and I had jobs and were also going to college. Plus we had a child in 4th grade. My husband was using his GI Bill school privileges, but we were paying on our own for mine (no student loans). We made it by eating lots of potatoes, beans, cabbage, casseroles to extend our meat, etc., and we made as many substitutions as possible. No extra money for any kind of snack foods. We are more advanced financially now and ready to retire, but we are resorting to those younger days by making adjustments such as trading ground beef for ground turkey, etc. Try to remember that we have had darker financial times in the U.S. - war and the Great Depression as well as numerous other recessions. Work hard at work and at home, and we will get through bad times.

I have stocked my pantry with what I use regularly. I purchase only when items I use are on sale. I buy extras so I never pay full price. I make our bread. We have small raised beds for fresh veggies in the summer. We are retired with adequate income and no debt. I feel blessed to be able to help others in our family who struggle sometimes.

Hey Shayla, I’ve been watching you for 1.5 years now and I just wanted to share I have never watched you for low income content specifically. I just see that as a bonus of your content. I subscribed because I appreciated how aesthetically beautiful your videos are, your homemaking wisdom, and that you are a believer. My favorite videos of yours were on biblically femininity (specifically your take on the proverbs 31 woman concept) and your holistic cleaning tips. The low income aspect of your content is the least important to me personally. I also really love your gentle spirit and calming vibe in your narrations.

I don't see how anyone could look at the current state of so many families and say we aren't in a recession already, but I appreciate the advice nevertheless.

Very sound, sensible advice. As a homemaker of 40 years, this was very validating. Keep up the good work, Shayla.❤

I have absolutely no fear or anxiety of everything that's happening. I've had many many many many year's to prepare for this because I stay grounded in YAHUAH'S word. Prophecy is going to happen. It IS happening. Know what's going on but don't infatuat in it. Faith overcomes everything. Faith is what's getting me through my health issues. Faith helps me through EVERYTHING, even loss.

I've been MIA from screens and a lot of YT. I'm glad I clicked on this morning. I absolutely love how you address those overwhelming people. 😂 You do it with humor and grace.

Blessings upon you and your family this summer. I pray our gardens are fruitful.

Wait, one more thing: in one of your videos, you mentioned not being able to stretch butter. Actually, there is a way; I got it from the old hippie cookbook, Laurel's Kitchen. You use equal parts of room temp butter and canola oil, then add some lecithin and a small amount of powder milk and water; whip it up in your mixer. It makes delightlfully delicate butter that is perfect for spreading on things. I am guessing it works better in some baking than others. If interested, the recipe is online.

I asked my parents in 2020 because they lived through the 70s . They said avoid debt and live on less than you make.
I've watched quite a few of your videos. I think you have beautiful content with nice music.
I've also been thankful to supplement my family's income with some work outside the home from a professional degree I have. Sometimes, we just need more income. Though I'm quite frugal in the first place.

Ive been teaching myself food preservation, gardening and other things for a few years and I love it. I do it to eat better food not because if fear or anything else. Im just tired of them trying to poison us.
I have made quilts and things but I really want to teach myself to sew my own clothes and repurpose old clothes. I have a nice sewing machine that was gifted to me and I really want to use it
