I am really glad Charlie got sober. He still has a lot to offer.

Martin in Apocalypse Now and Charlie in Platoon. The two best films on the Vietnam conflict.

There's a million reasons Apocalypse Now could never be made today. We had directors and actors who were willing to accept risk and suffering as part of the filmmaking process.

It's so cool that he and his dad were, separately, in two of my favorite movies.

And Martin's cameo in Hot Shots 2 is the greatest movie cameo

It's completely astonishing that Apocalypse Now lost the best picture Oscar to Kramer Vs. Kramer.

Well, despite his father starring in it, I guess no one can and no one will disagree that it's one of the most impressive creative feats in not only film history, but in the history of all of the arts. A dark and timeless masterpiece

Just the opening scene is audibly and visually memorable for all time. Then it's one after another after another.

Charlie isnt kidding. I lived in Koronadal City near where the film was made. It is really wierd. You are isolated, sick from the heat, its steamy and yes, help is far away. You feel it. You are connected not only to nature, but also to that isolation. It was life changing.

Since Charlie's book came out I must have watched over a 100 you tube clips of different interviews and not once has he repeated an anecdote or story or at least framed it in a different way. So much material to work with obviously. Nothing canned about this man. What a life.
