I live in a large metro area. I'm 67 years old, worked in market produce departments for 2 decades, and have never seen a watermelon stem still intact with the fruit.

Purchased a tabletop dehydrator last summer, and a food saver. Being single and frugal, cut up watermelon I am not usually able to justify compared to the cheaper pricing for halved or whole watermelons. Last summer, I finally figured out ways to purchase and use up a whole watermelon. Watermelon is a great hydrator. The packets of watermelon powder in the grocery store end up expensive, but I might justify the finer powder and stronger packaging for travel trips. The packets are dehydrated water melon rind, along with the fruit. Then, powdered. The ones in the packets have a much finer powder than what my coffee grinder can produce. There are different options I can do now with a watermelon. Sometimes, I slice or dice, portion off in foodsaver bags. Cucumbers and watermelons do not last more than 3-4 weeks, because of their plant makeup. It does allow me weekly servings to unthaw and enjoy the sweet fruits for about a month at a time. Sometimes, I will take the fruit, dice it and in the blender, freeze some off. This watermelon juice is definitely cost effective. Online, a 8 or 10 ounce bottle costs $10 in my area. Yet, a small watermelon in season costs no more than $5-$7. Keep in mind, I live in a tourist beach town. Absolutely beautiful, but have had to sharpen up and learn, try out new food management and preparation skills. Physical, manual labor much of this is. And, dishes and utensils. Everything I do, I look for projects that are simple and hopefully cost effective. Last summer, I was very happy my first projects of seasonal produce came out well. The only drawback to dehydrating, was the locals say every summer's weather is different. It was foggy and overcast almost everyday of this past summer, makes my home a bit more humid and the dehydrator a bit longer to work. Also, I work my dehydrator during off electric hours.

Thank you very much indeed for your tips. These tips are useful, especially for people who live in towns and have never been to the farmlands or are unfamiliar with agriculture. I am watching your video from Bangladesh. Have a safe and happy time! 🌼

Speaking from the perspective of my father-in-law, who runs a watermelon farm, the easiest way for a regular person to choose a good watermelon is to look for one with a sunken stem end. Watermelons grown in regions with large temperature differences between day and night tend to retain more sugar inside during the night. A sunken stem end is a good indicator of that.

My grandparents had a watermelon farm growing up, every summer time which happened to be our school holidays my mom always send us to their farm .. and how I remember all my siblings and our cousins sat down every afternoon and just harvest some fruits and ate it as our snacks! 😊it quenched our thirst from playing in the sun plus fill us up easily! Ahhhh makes me emotional thinking about my childhood
