Joel, I know you joke a lot, but I would prefer you took this matter seriously. When I was a child, I watched The Silly Adventures of Mr. Kitty, a fairly innocent-looking show at the time. My parents warned me that it was the work of the Devil, but I never listened to them. Then one morning, I was watching the latest episode, when Mr. Kitty looked at me directly, and hyper-realistic blood came flowing out of his eyes. He came out of my screen and opened a portal to Hell, as my entire family got sucked into a vortex of fire, while Mr. Kitty laughed. It was then that I realized, that Mr. Kitty was actually Mr. Satan. This was real and it happened.

I used to be a Satanist and we sacrificed 85 babies per week in public parks in your neighborhood. Nobody has reported nor investigated any crimes nor has anyone even been suspicious, but buy my book about my very real and true experience that definitely happened and about how telling people I can hear the whispers of Jesus made me a productive member of society (AKA rich as shiiiiiiiiit, son).

I was never able to take the pastors talking about the evils of violence in videogames seriously because I grew up in those churches and right after their screeds they would start praying for George Bush to nuke the planet

It's the seriousness of them that gets me. They're in their 50s acting like a kid playing pokemon snap is gonna evolve into them becoming a terraria wizard that can summon skeletons and ride on a zombie horse, and it's said with the same seriousness and severity of someone discussing a drug epidemic

The fact that this was such a huge issue of grandmas and pastors burning the Pokemon cards because it's a product of Satan, while actual dangerous fanatical cults came and went like it was nothing. It just shows that the whole satanic panic was just straight up bullshit and it severely undermined actual problems with religion and evangelism.
