An 18 foot telescopic whip works very well also and you can adjust it up and down for the bands. I have one set up in my back yard currently and work South America from the SE USA all the time. Great video.

So the radials are 2m long and the antenna is 13ft high :face-green-smiling: If you ever wanted a better illustration of the UK partial conversion to metric this was it! The antenna is 4m and the radials are 2m for anyone watching in colour.

Built this today and totally impressed with the performance. Easy for a novice like me to build. Greetings from southern Alberta! I'll make sure to stop by the shop next time I'm in the UK!

A couple of disguise ideas: If you are using a 7-meter (23 feet0 pole, you can skip using the top 2 or 3 sections so that the top is a bit stiffer. Then, put a small bird house or a flag on the top. Of course rules vary, but many Home Owner Associations will allow a small bird house or flag on a pole.

I love this simple approach, thank-you! Parts of my front hedge are about 20ft high and my neighbour has said that I can make use of their 50ft willow and poplar trees, so I'm going to try your recipe and cook up a vertical antenna!

I have a DX commander classic which I have put under a tree and merged it into the branches. About 4 - 5 feet stick out the top of the tree. No one seems to have noticed. For 2m/70cm I use a diamond dual band 8 foot antenna on a tripod hidden inside an apple tree. All working ok so far.
