him saying he didn't see any tension during THE bike scene that doubled as a preview of their crazy competition and also as a sex metaphor was actually crazy. that was sex without the sex lol

I love the brother honesty. "I just learned they speak French in Canada is that a dumb thing?...YES!" Way to reinforce the American stereotype that we know nothing about other countries.😂

I think it helps to put some of this into perspective. I grew up in the 1980s, and in my generation gay men were usually portrayed as overly feminine or simply the punchline of a joke. We rarely saw ourselves as the central characters in meaningful stories. In the last few years, with shows like Heartstopper, Boots, Red, White & Royal Blue, and others, we’re finally seeing gay characters represented as the focus of the narrative. That’s something I never really had growing up, so it means a lot to see it now.

It’s also worth noting that this particular show was written by a woman and is based on a full series of books — around six to eight in total — similar to how Heartstopper came from a multi-book series. The production itself had very real time and budget constraints. It was shot in just 36 days with a budget of about $3 million per episode, whereas most TV series typically run closer to $10–15 million per episode. In fact, the director, Jacob Tierney, and his producer even set aside their own fees just to help make the budget work.

Because of those limitations, the time jumps weren’t meant to be distracting — they were simply what could realistically be accomplished within the schedule and funding they had. Jacob even shared that the final episode, number six, was literally finished the week before it aired.

I don’t think everyone fully appreciates just how much time, effort, and passion went into creating the show under those constraints. When you look at it from that perspective, what they achieved is actually pretty remarkable.
