  In no way was this an accident, it was gross negligence and incompetence on the part of the scout leaders. A brutal seven day hike/climb in the most inhospitable place there is, with 3 out of shape 70 year olds and 5 inexperienced 15 year olds. They only brought enough water for one day and the so called leader takes a tumble on the first incline, and they didn't call it off?!! Unbelievable and Unforgivable.

  Poor kid sacrificed his life for everyone around him. Sharing his water when he’s already severely dehydrated and at risk of death. Going off alone for 2nrs to try to find a water source for everyone when nobody else could. All his selfless acts cost him his life. He probably even saved the lives of the boys he helped by giving his water to them. Heroic but so sad. This is the type of person we need in the world. His poor parents tho, but at least they can be proud they raised such a good, solid human being w a huge heart. He prob would have grown up to be a stand up man. The world will never know. We lost a kind soul. Rip kid

  This is by far the most heartbreaking among the series I've seen. David is a real hero for saving his friends with sharing his last bottle of water left. Had he not share it with his friends, he might still be alive before the paramedics team arrives. But by doing so would endanger all of them due to extreme dehydration. That life saving bottle saved them all. Forever thanks to David's sacrifice. R.I.P Dude!

  YOU SEE HOW THOSE CANOERS WERE PREPARED WITH RADIO, PHONE, PLENTY OF WATER AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES THAT'S HOW THOSE INEPT SCOUT MASTERS SHOULD'VE BEEN PREPARED.

  I normally don’t like to judge other adults’ decisions but I’ve lived in Arizona and you have to be VERY careful in the desert and the Grand Canyon. These adults were being careless. They needed an experienced guide who could have prevented this situation. A guide would have checked the weather forecast, would have never taken them off-trail, would have known exactly how much water they needed, would have carried an adequate first-aid kit, etc.

  This is entirely the adults' responsibility. The scout guide needs to be held accountable for negligence. When the fall happened, combined with the rising heat, it was a clear indication to stop pushing forward and call for help! This is all so stupid on his part, and poor David it cost him his life.

  It's amazing to think that a boy that died 27 years ago that no one on here knew is still getting so much sympathy so many years later and this aired 17 years ago. Bless humanity!

  Hiking the easiest trail of the Grand Canyon in the middle of winter is difficult enough. What this group did, in the heat of June on an advanced trail, is either ignorance or madness.

  If you&apos;re hiking with children, off-trail in the Grand effing Canyon, not having a sat phone seems criminal to me.
