"What happened in Jonestown is better described as a homicide on a large scale as opposed to a suicide. Without Jones, none of those people would have died."
- I've never thought of this case in those terms. Fascinating.

"If a deity is an atheist, does that mean that they don't believe that THEY exist?" Dr. Grande, your deadpan humor is on point, sir.

THANK YOU! No one ever explains that it was mass murder not suicide. It’s really upsetting to me that Jones’ victims are remembered as lemmings instead of prisoners.

I fear the day when Dr Grande makes a video looking at the mental health and personality factors of people that enjoy watching videos on mental health and personality factors. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but these videos really do help when dealing with difficult people in real life, even though I am not a mental health professional.

“Bet his optometrist was afraid of him”. Lot of great humor in this sad video.

I remember this event vividly, I was 13 when it happened. I lost my childhood innocence seeing all the photos of the dead laying face down, the children were the worst. My social studies teacher talked about it in class for days. Everyone was horrified at the atrocity. I had nightmares for a long time, thinking about the crying people being forced to drink poison, most did not want to die. I probably could have used some therapy after that. Jones was a sick, evil bastard.

I can remember when the Guyana tragedy was all over the news. Even after all these years I'm still shocked when I hear about it again.

This event hits home for me Doctor. My auntie and her children were members of Jones’s cult and they went to the jungle with him. Unfortunately, they all died on that tragic day in 1978.

Thank you Doc. While we're on the theme of cult leaders, how about L. Ron Hubbard? How does he compare to the likes of Jones and Koresh? From what I can see there's a cold deliberate Machiavellian quality - I don't for a second believe that he believed a single word of what he propounded. (I even heard a story that he made a wager with friends that he could invent a religion and have people believe it...In order, one supposes, to secretly laugh at human stupidity and gullibility: and the power trip of course). Is there grounds for suspecting a diagnosable disorder in Hubbard, or was he just a subclinical case of narcissism/anti-social qualities?
