  It’s so special to listen to you.   I’m an 82 yr old grandma who well remembers you from the news of ‘back in the day,’.  You tell of how that life spills out to those you love whether you want it to or not.   I know that because my family & I were brushed by it .   At the time we lived in a lovely town west of Chicago.   Faithful believers in the Lord.  Active in our church.  I did a lot of volunteer work at the neighborhood elementary school.   It was a great time for us.   One couple that we knew well through church & the school owned a pizza store.   My daughter had a part time job there when she was in high school.   And I worked part time cutting & bagging pizza’s.   We loved our boss, John.   He was from Sicily.   He didn’t go to church - but he knew we were praying for him. 🤗.    The shock of our lives came one afternoon when his wife called me to see if she could drop the kids off for a while.   There was a problem at the pizza store and she couldn’t take them there.  I won’t go into all the details, but it turns out that the FBI was there .    I’m sure you remember one of the first big RICO cases Guilliano brought in NYC.   Turns out John’s older brother who brought him to the states years before was involved in the Pizza Connection part of that.   He owned a pizza store about 50 miles west of where we lived and he was a coordinator for a string of pizza places in the Midwest who had been smuggling drugs into the country using the stores as cover.   He had shielded John from this ….  John was not involved and didn’t know anything about it.   His wife told me there were things about the brother’s lifestyle that had confused them.  They always had more money than seemed possible from just the proceeds of their store.   Little things that didn’t add up.   They didn’t get together as families much at all.   My friend, John’s wife, always thought it was because he married her, not an Italian woman.    Now she understood why there tax returns were audited every year!   And we found out that all of our phones had been tapped.   We had a laugh when we thought of all the conversations that were listened to while she and I talked about the Lord and our prayers for John to come to know Him too.   I never doubted that John was innocent.   He was devastated by betrayal, of course.    His brother was convicted along with all the higher-up guys from NYC.   John & his family were completely cleared of any knowledge of wrongdoing.     years Later John got sick.   They  moved to a small town downstate from Chicago.  His oldest was in college and his two younger helped him run the store so it was doing well when he had to turn it over to them.  OH,  almost forgot the best part,   About a year after his brother’s conviction John committed his life to the Lord.   He was always a good man …. Now he was a joyful man!    We all stood by him through it all - and never stopped praying for him.      You will believe this:   When he died from his illness, his brother (out of prison now) and several very intimidating men showed up at the funeral and tried to take over!   Promising her he would take care of her and the kids,  etc, etc.   She got furious!!!  The funeral home was jammed because so many from the community lived John and he had helped so many of them.   She started yelling for the brother and his henchmen to get out - and someone ran for the police ….   I guess he didn’t want a big public event because he and the other guys left … leaving a very chilling atmosphere behind them!    Ugh.    After about a year or so, my friend moved out west with the daughter and younger son …. About as far away as she could get.        So that’s my midwestern housewife, mother, volunteer worker’s story of being touched by the real Mafia and seeing the agony it brought to people who had nothing to do with it.   Can’t recall the names of the high level Mafia guys who were convicted in that RICO case (I’m old now. lol). One name started with a B, for sure.   Saw a documentary about it many years ago but haven’t found it lately.     Thanks for letting me share my adventures!    And praise God for His everlasting love!!!

  What’s crazy is that even though he couldn’t get his dad out, his dad actually survived that 50 years and lived past 100 being the oldest living from that life, it’s crazy!!!

  Moral of the Story. <br>1. Avoid Criminals and Criminal Activity. Associate with people who you can trust or be alone. <br>2. Apply your Skills to a Legal Business.<br>3. Trust others in small increments and be clear about the agreement. <br>4. If someone violates your trust and violates a Business deal, avoid doing business with them again. Politely ask them &quot;why did you break our agreement?&quot; Evaluate how they justify their behavior over your loss even though you had an agreement. <br>5. Being surrounded by people who could kill or betray you is a horrible way to exist. You are constantly living in fear.
