  Hats off to Ray Butts who did a fantastic job when he designed the Filter'Trons: he really kept the Spirit of Gretsch.

  One of the best & most informative demo's on YT. The side-by-side of the 'Trons vs. the 'Sonics is EXACTLY a comparison I have been wanting to hear for years. Thanks for putting this together, & for getting right to it!!

  I have G5420s with standard Blacktops, Dearmond 2000 Dynasonics, TVJ Classics, and TVJ T-Armonds.  Each of these I give different chores to.  One guitar with blacktops has had a row of pole pieces removed in both pickups, and the other, just out of the neck pickup, retaining the standard humbucking blacktop in the bridge.  I have(5) G5420t guitars, each with their own voices and behaviors.  And I love it.  It keeps songwriting fresh.  Life is hard....  ;)  Great video, guys.

  The midrange on the bridge Dynasonic is insane. Both sets of pickups have a lot of range, but for that "perfect overdriven" sound, the Dynasonic is IT.

  I have a Jet with the FilterTrons and a G6120 54 Chet Atkins prototype with the T'Armonds.  I love them both and they are in my "forever" guitars collection of 5.  They both bring separate harmonic stories to whatever I play,but the Dynatrons get dirty really, really well using a MXR Timmy into a 59 Fender Twin.

  When I was looking to get into electric from over three decades of acoustic guitar, I was adamant that I wanted a hardtail with P90s and a Fender scale length. Then I heard Julian Lage playing a Jet, and I fell hard for the filtertron sound. So now I have a black Jet with a Bigsby. With flats. Amazingly versatile.
