Everything about the society is about GDP growth, who will have time and the energy outside of work to rear kids? Duh

Money may seemed like the main issue. But the truth is the more competitive, stressful and realistic the society is the less love people feel around them since young. That leads to people having no fundamental emotions or needs to procreate just for their partners when nothing seems to be worthy and with their own natural instinct to self-protect first from volatile environment and partnerships.

The below birth rate in S Korea makes sense: The way women are treated there, the work pressure, the lack of great sleep and support (of all kind), but especially in child rearing….Yeah, if I were Korean, I’d also opt out of marriage and children, too.

generations of “you’re not ready for marriage until you have a home, you’re not ready for kids until you have a job” and now both of those things are nearly impossible, I don’t understand how parents are surprised when their kids say they’re not having kids. (You could never own a house or apartment Seoul even if you work 45+ a week depending on the job…)

I rather have a society with less people but more mentally healthy people than more people with more mentally broken people. We have 8 billion people on earth right now and never has it felt so lonely.

Cost of living and the stresses of living in the society here are definitely the main reasons.

Romania gives new moms 2 years fully paid maternity leave, free childcare, kindergarden, schools and healthcare till the kid is 18. it is not enough. the salaries are low to be able to have more kids, that need to be fed, clothed, vacations. more kids also mean a bigger car,so more expenses. and many more

Our population faces problems today and for the unseeable future; then we'll double our population, really we're fast approaching our doom. I don't judge people for their dreams; but what right do we have to subject our children to these problems. We don't have enough food much less affordable space to raise them.

This is only bad for greed but good for nature.

Top up from overseas. That's the hilarious line I ever heard.

'Sampo' sounds relateable here in the States, where just being able to work enough hours to afford rent/bills/food/debt-repayment doesn't leave many with much to even start raising kids, let alone set time aside to date.

"It took over two million years of human prehistory and history for the human population to reach one billion and only 207 years more to grow to 7 billion.[4]" -wikipedia

Somewhat doubt we have issues with human population.
