You would have to take a vehicle larger than the space station carry an extremely large amount of fuel . Not to mention the space craft to lower down to Mars and the fuel to get you back up

Better send 2 or 3 return ships to cover the chance of catastrophic system failure (guidance system/mars entry or fuel generation/storage failure) return ship destruction due to outside event (tipping issues martian weather metoric impact) on a perfect mission there would be two back up ships for future missions (life boats) and three ISRU plants running should a change in mission profile that would require more fuel

How much do you really want to go? How many will sign up for a one way trip? If you do accept this then the next question will be, what will you give up for the outgoing trip? To save space/energy/food/weight/etc...will you give up legs? Teeth? Four of your fingers? Half your ribs? One lung? What % of you really needs to go?
