Thanks Mike, my dad had an original 1860. I'll never forget it was serial # 30060. I was young and dumb and traded it for a cartridge revolver. Thanks for the memories.

I don’t mind it darker slightly - it gives character.

I once had Dave Miller (a stock maker) and Ron Dewarf (a gun smith) in Tucson fit a frame and set of grips from an 1860 Army to a 7 1/2" Colt SAA. It was magic!

Back in the 80s I knew an old gunsmith in his late 70s who was very skilled and experienced in fitting one piece walnut grips on Colts. He once did a one piece oak grip that took a long time to fit right, and was hard as marble.

    Great video thanks Mike.
Here in Tywyn in Wales we are celebrating the 160th Anniversary of the Act of Parliament that authorised the creation of the Talyllyn Railway. It survived from 1865 to 1950 as a conventional business and became the World's first preserved railway in 1951. Today, we operate with much additional rolling stock, but we also still operate our original 1860s locomotives and carriages.
Our connection to the American Civil War is that we were founded by a group of Manchester businessmen - they invested here to diversify their portfolio because the war was affecting their cotton businesses.

Duelist 1954 , I worked as machinist and jig builder in the aircraft field. Your process sounds like a tool builder at work. I'm a 1954 model myself.

Yeah, I bought a Pietta grip for my BBQ pistol from Taylor and Co. and I wanted to paint it white. The grip was so oversized that I ended up botching the grips and now they are pretty much useless. The white two-piece grips are 88 bucks and always out of stock. Luckily, I only wasted 27 bucks. Great video as always. God Bless
