Do you think Sassanid Persia collapsed because of the Arab religious zeal, or were they just too exhausted from centuries of fighting Rome? Let us know your take on the Battle of al-Qadisiyyah below.

    9:34
According to the Muslim historian Tabari, eight thousand five hundred Arabs were killed in this war and the war compensation was divided among the thirty thousand Arabs who survived. This means that the Arab army was about forty thousand people.
The reason why the Iranian army is mentioned as twice as many as the Arabs is that part of the Iranian army joined the original army after the defeat of Qadisiyah. Part of it was commanded by Nakhorgan a few days later and part of it was commanded by Khurezad, Rustam's younger brother, a few months later.

    7:42
Iran was simultaneously engaged in three wars:
In the west (with Rome), in the east with the Turks, and in the north (with the Alans and Khazars). Later, a war in the south (with the Arabs) was added. There was little strength left within Iran itself and the capital.
At the same time, an epidemic was spreading in the region. According to the Chronicle of Khuzestan, Khosrow Parviz was seriously ill. The same disease later claimed the lives of his son Shirviyeh and perhaps subsequent kings.
There are narrations from the Muslim historian Tabari that both Ardashir III and Shahr Voraz were ill.
In addition, in 627-8, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers overflowed, breaking the dams in the middle of the river, causing many fields and houses to be flooded.
All of these factors played a role in the defeat of the Iranians by the Arabs.

    11:28
The name of the commander of the Iranian army in this battle was Rostam. Farrokhzad was the name of Rostam's younger brother, who was also the commander of the army in the Battle of Jalula. Rostam's name is mistakenly called Rostam Farrokhzad.
