I dislike comparing my retirement readiness to others. I know where I am. I know where I want to be. I then compare the gap between the two and try to close it.

$50k a year is good in Des Moines,  but in California,  it is barely above poverty.

I never thought I would ever in my life be in this situation. This year, (2026), I had to drastically cut back my hours so I can do the Roth conversion thing. This is crazy. I still enjoy working though.

delaying SS isn't the play. I've run the numbers, and at least my numbers show that I will make far more by taking it at 62 and allowing more of my invested income to remain invested. My break even is like 90 years old.

Delaying SS until 70 is great if your health hasn’t gone to crap by then. This isn’t a large percentage of people. Therein lies the issue.

The Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances data is 2022 data, it&apos;s 4 year old data. We pretty much need to double the numbers to be in the same percentile in 2026.<br>The Survey is done every 3 years, the 2025 data should be released in October 2026.

Re sign 2: If you look at the tables, you&apos;ll find that your total Social Security payout doesn&apos;t change if you claim early. What does change is that you reduce the risk of dying before you collect much of it or of the feds stealing it from you.
