This song was inspired by their visit to Iceland in 1970: "We come from the land of the ice and snow
From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow".

Robert Plant's scream or yell in this song is immitating the Viking war horn from a Viking ship or boat, when Vikings were coming from the sea to raid and plunder a foreign land. Thanks for the reaction.

They weren't trying to write the most popular tunes. Not trying to write "hits" per say. Jimmy knew what he wanted to create when he formed the band. Mission accomplished. Best band ever.

While about the Viking invasion of Britain, Robert Plant said that it was also a metaphor for their “conquering “ of the US during their incredibly successful early concert tours.

Led Zeppelin are known for different time signatures, when & how Robert Plant sings with the music. They always make it sound so great, & that’s why they are loved so much. The yell especially has been in several movies, & what new listeners recognize. Listen to all their songs, so many great ones to experience, thank you once again for your reactions.

The lyrics are about the Viking invasions of Britain before the year 1000. Great song from a great band.
