Structuring a Godot project is hard, but over the past 5 years I've figured out a few strategies I’ve liked. Each one has its own pros and cons, so there is no "right way", there is just the way that works best for now. 8:12 .tres resource files are just plaintext on the inside. You can do a 'find all' in vscode. Very useful

I honestly really like that you showed the whole process of which system you tried first, why it wasn't good and you switched to the second one and then the third one and also gave the reasons why new one was better the previous ones.. you don't see that very often and then people get the feeling that developers do everything on the first try and everyone just assumes that everything takes a long time to make, because developers are lazy, when the truth is that almost nothing gets done on the first try and all that trial and error is the reason why everything takes a long time..

I personally also like actual databases. Like SQLite which there is a good addon for in Godot's asset lib. Worth a try.

I like to think that even as a solo developer you’re still working with multiple people. There’s the present you, and then there are multiple versions of yourself in the future that has to live with the decisions you made in the past.

There’s a balance of course. You can only learn the balance through making suboptimal decisions.
Sometimes you need to over engineer to learn how to do something, what not to do or how to make a thing better.

Also, making the game data driven makes it way easier to enable modding support for players, as they can just modify the data, add, remove and change however they want, much much easier than if everything was in code.

There is an addon that allows you to view all resources in your project in a search panel. Forget the name of it, though. It basically gives you a table view of all of your .tres resources.

That's insane, I was just THINKING "I need to see how to improve this part of my game" that involves data, and you video was the first one when I opened ytb, haha

Hey Aarimous! I was honestly pretty surprised to hear you include the fact that you've been working on stuff in therapy in the video, mostly because I've been going through something very similar. I've started to learn Godot this past month and your videos have been an incredible resource for me. Thanks for doing what you do.
