Detectives Wagner and Bennett were able to identify Carla Walker's murderer as seventy-seven-year-old Glen Samuel McCurley Jr. The DNA profile had led them to three McCurley brothers, and they were able to determine that Samuel McCurley had been the killer.<br><br>Shortly after Carla's murder in 1974, the police had brought in McCurley for questioning. He had been a person of interest, and the police had wanted to talk to him, because he'd lived only a mile away from the bowling alley where Carla was abducted. Shortly before the teen went missing, McCurley had purchased a .22 Ruger pistol — and his weapon used the same kind of magazine that the murderer had dropped at the bowling alley. But McCurley had told the police that although he had owned that weapon, it was no longer in his possession. He claimed that his wife had taken the truck to visit some family six weeks prior, and that the gun had been stolen from the vehicle. The date that the gun was allegedly stolen coincided with Carla's disappearance. He explained to the police that the reason why he hadn't reported the gun's disappearance, was because he was an ex-con, who had previously been jailed on car theft charges.
