  i love Dune's depiction of space where there's no aliens or ai but humans diversify on different planets over such a long time that they almost evolve into different species and gain different abilities because of their adaptations (mentats, bene tleilaxu, guild navigators, facedancers, the kwisatz haderach, etc)

  I think it’s pretty unrealistic to assume that intelligent life would be able to traverse space for one, and that they would be close enough to find us. I believe they’re definitely out there, but the odds of us coming into contact with them are realistic slim to none.

  Given how vast the universe is—literally trillions of galaxies, each with billions of stars and potentially even more planets—it seems pretty likely that we’re not alone. The sheer scale makes it hard to believe Earth is the only place where life has ever emerged. Whether it’s intelligent life or just microbial, the odds feel too high for us to be the exception. What’s more amazing is the odds of us being alive and knowing we’re alive. That’s truly like winning a million lotteries in a row. And then some…
