In this episode, I go through a stack of real calls I get as an independent dealer and break down the situations people end up in after the excitement of buying a car. Teslas, BMWs, Hyundais, Chargers, all kinds of stuff. Different cars, same story. People call in trying to get out of their loan, and when we run the numbers, you realize the car is worth way less than what they still owe. One guy is buried about $20,000 in a Tesla Model 3. Another one has a Hyundai with nearly $10,000 in negative equity. There’s a BMW X5 where the payment is around $700, but more than half of that is just interest every month. I walk through why that happens, how depreciation and interest stack up, and why a lot of people feel stuck even though they’ve been making payments for a while. Some callers have solid credit and just want relief from the payment. Others have really low scores and basically no options left. In a lot of these situations, the real answer isn’t another car. Sometimes it’s keeping what you have, refinancing if the numbers allow it, or just riding it out until the balance comes down. I also talk about repos, settlements, and how upgrading cars every year is one of the fastest ways to stay upside down forever.
