RDJ came back from rehab and released Iron Man and Tropic Thunder in the same year while getting an Oscar nomination with it. Talk about a comeback 👏👏

I didn't recognize Tom Cruise the first time until the credits.
Now I love to watch other people's reactions when it finally registers for them.

37:00 - That water buffallo that they later put Jack Black on top of was actually pregnant. She flung him off and was acting out of sorts. When it was revealed later and after she ultimately gave birth they named the baby, Jack.

The funniest thing about this movie isn’t even in the movie itself. It’s in the commentary. Because when RDJ’s character says “Man I don’t drop character till I’ve done the DVD commentary” RDJ to actually stays in character as “Lincoln Osiris” with the black voice throughout almost the entire movie (and he’s fuckin hilarious) then when Kirk finally drops character and becomes Kirk Lazarus again, he has the Australian accent throughout the rest of the commentary. And then finally when the credits play, Robert Downey Jr. is using his normal voice again.

That’s how you get nominated for an Oscar!🤣🤣🤣

The reason why Robert Downey Jr.‘s performance still holds up today is because it is NOT making fun of black people. It’s making fun of the fact that a major Hollywood studio would rather hire a highly acclaimed and very respected white actor to play a black man, rather than risk a lesser known or lesser respected black actor playing the role and not giving as great of a performance. It also brilliantly pokes fun at how some method actors take themselves FAR too seriously, to the point where they don’t know they are embarrassing both themselves and the people around them.

Even Brandon T Jackson, who plays Alpa Chino, gave his seal of approval and at times actually forgot that Robert was actually white because his voice was so convincing.🤣🤣

I truly think Tom Cruise gives one of the greatest comedic performances of the last couple decades

I love that you can tell Ben Stiller started to disassociate the instant he tasted blood instead of corn syrup by the look on his face, then he just goes into complete denial of his situation and starts playing with the head.
