I use the clear tubs and just have the windows in the room for day light cycle myself. The weird thing is I've noticed is it doesn't matter if the lights on or off once it's dark they get active. Not sure how exactly they can tell if it's day or night without using the light. I've heard people say that they breed better when it's raining. When I was a kid we had racing pigeons and they are said to use the magnetic pull from the poles to navigate. Makes me wonder if there's not something going on with a extra sense with pythons to.

I have wooden enclosures, sealed them from the inside and they are great! They are sturdy, they keep the heat the whole night and the humidity as well. My animals feel secure and the sliding doors are very nice to work with too.

saw the 3rd option at a reptile expo and now i'm saving so i can upgrade my homemade large steralite tubs that i built for my snakes!

Clint Laidlaw pointed out that we shouldn’t judge what an animal likes by what we like…and snakes usually live in some sort of small burrow where they can feel all the walls, which makes them feel secure. Coming out of their cozy hole to look for food is not necessarily a fun experience for them; there might be predators around any corner. And if an animal is distressed or unhappy, usually two things are the first to suffer: their willingness to eat and their willingness to breed. The fact that snakes can live in a tub and do both argues that they don’t feel the need for as rich an environment as we do. Having said that though— I’d prefer a beautiful habitat enclosure because That’s what I want to look at
