  Clarification - I’m part of ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service - we have a net every Tuesday on my stream) which is NOT law enforcement. RACES is a FEDERAL thing where they call in ARES to perform communication liaison work during a civil emergency. <br><br>RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) is not an “agency” that you work for, have a uniform, lights, etc. We certainly do have “weird” radios being with ARES though, since we DO communicate directly with some emergency services ONLY during some crazy event where the normal comms are down and we are relaying messages for LEO or civil agencies). RACES is typically activated by FEMA.
