Its refreshing to see influencers actually criticizing food when it doesnt appeal to them. Its far to many influencers just saying everything is delicious when it doesnt.

I cannot stress this enough but thank you so much for giving your unfiltered opinion on your buffet experiences. Almost every local vlogger covering these establishments cannot be trusted because they just hype everything, making it out like these foods are the best things their mouths have ever tasted. It really is a breath of fresh air to hear the honest opinion of an experienced traveller foodie like you.

🍉🍉Love that people are pointing out both sides here. On one hand, Filipino food is indeed meant to be balanced with rice, and eating it solo misses the point. On the other hand, another commenter is right ...we don't need every vlogger pretending everything is perfect. A little research before filming would bridge the gap perfectly!🍉🍉

Hi jimmy! For context, tuyo is dried salted fish. It is a preservation method because refrigeration wasn't a thing in the old days. It has become a breakfast staple for us now. Also, food is usually intensely flavored because we eat it with a lot of rice. Think one bite of that fish along with 1 to 3 spoonfuls of rice. We also dip tuyo in vinegar to cut through the saltiness and for contrast. Sometimes, the vinegar is spiced too. So it's a spicy, salty, sour flavor profile, softened by rice. Honestly, it's an acquired taste, but i love the honesty and objectivity. Looking forward to the next video!

what you had in the cheapest buffet was a bfast buffet. the dried fish or TUYO sometimes can be salty, or less depending on the supplier, you have to dip it on vinegar to lessen the saltyness. If you are a local that 199pesos on that buffet its really a bang for your buck for breakfast. The rice with chocolate is Champorado, we used cacao. The pancit its really normal noodles and we have several types of pancit.

im hoping you see this comment jimmy, most reason why filipino food is "rich" (my definition of salty/umami/a lot of flavor) is because so we can consume MORE RICE and be more full with each meal, which basically helps us with surviving through out the day. This also helps us spend more on rice, rather than the dish (viand/ulam), rice is cheaper, so more rice = more full = less spending.

Eating the breakfast fried dishes without vinegar, is like eating Korean food without kimchi and the banchan.
