  Good documentary. I remember visiting this factory in the late 70s on a school trip. It was massive. I remember the presses pumping out car panels, and the huge canteen where west Indian factory workers would slam dominoes down on their tables whilst on breaks. One thing though. I hate these AI narrations. Dagen-HAM. If you can go to all the effort to edit this footage together, can't you have a real person narrating?

  As always its the owners fault...... You didnt mention the strikes, constant increased pay demands which eventually made Dagenham unprofitable as a business.<br>Ford moved the business to were they could make a profit

  My mother used to work in the canteen next to the foundry. I still have a plague that was given to all the staff when the foundry closed, it is really heavy as it was made out of the metal that forged the engine blocks.

  Ford UK was the proof that Protectionism works and is mutually beneficial for all sides.<br>Then politics got in the way because the banks were more heavily exposed to German War debt.<br>UK joined the EEC which facilitated the resulting move of production to Ford Germany.The same applied to GM UK&apos;s operation at Luton.<br>Now the banks and politicians have bet on China not Germany.

  You have to take into account the behaviour of &nbsp;the &nbsp;unions, their arrogance ignored the fact that they were dealing with an international business. Cause too much trouble, they just go elsewhere.

  It looks like someone was in charge making all these Industries fail From Coal Mining Raleigh Steel Rover and many more they all employed 1000s

  Dagenham is no longer part of Essex, it&apos;s part of London since 1965.
