Because of this, it was completely closed to non-muslims until just a few years ago. Since Medina was off-limits for most people for so long, we decided to go visit it and see what the experience would look like a non-muslim couple. We had heard that it was extremely conservative and that still many sites were strictly prohibited for foreigners.
