I usually fly into and out of Lambert a few times a year. I live just 35 minutes away on the Illinois side. I'm really looking forward to the changes -- the airport desperately needs it.

On top of that Boeing just recently made a 2 billion dollar upgrade to their factory there, and the F-47 is expected to be built at Lambert

The 2011 tornado also greatly affected the layout.  Prior to the tornado you could walk between the terminals via concourse D, after it was rebuilt concourse D was closed and the 2 terminal operated separately.

I'm glad that they are keeping the iconic domes. Lambert airport's terminals as it is today is a bit of a labyrinth, like many pre 9/11 terminals.  Hopefully this consolidation results in better experience.

Lufthansa already serves STL and British airways starts soon. There’s you’re reason for the widebody gate.

I live in STL and believe the region has a lot to offer, but our airport is lacking and does not make a good first impression for visitors. Very glad to hear of the plans to improve it. I’d like to see that whole 70 corridor around the airport improved and beautified as well.

the entirety of terminal 2 and the E concourse is all southwest airlines. They are over half the daily flights there.

All the STL locals know that you want to be picked up at departures (opposite of intended), it is the current upper tier and is generally much less  hectic than arrivals on the lower level

It is a shame what American Airlines did to the STL airport and people.  The airport built an additional runway in the late '90s to help with air traffic overcrowding due to it being TWA's main hub.  After AA bought TWA, they cut STL out as a hub and fired virtually every former TWA employee within 3 years.  This cut passenger traffic by over 50% and STL has been searching for another "hub" airline ever since.  Hopefully this rebuilding will make that happen.

One thing lambert does need is better baggage claim. It can be up to 35 minutes after a plane deboards before the bags come out.

We use Lambert a lot.  For picking up vistitors and dropping them off it is great right now.  You can park right in front of the departure doors, traffic isn't bad, and you can wait right there without getting moved along by security. Used to live in SF where we had to circle endlessly waiting for guests to arrive.  Hope this makes things even better.

This is actually quite fascinating, I recently took a class with a top level executive from lambert. The cost is enormous, the cost per gate is about 80 million. He said that when they were planning this they thought 10 million a gate was high. This new terminal will prove useful in the future though. Lufthansa, and soon British Airways will too, have direct flights to Europe. They’re currently exploring more international airlines as well, the future is looking pretty bright for KSTL.
