I'm sorry but people had been talking about how we lie about bringing democracy while pursuing profits for decades before tons of Americans bought that lie in the War on Terror. If there was a genuine hope we were making things more democratic after years of couping countries who just wanted a more economically favorable position in the world and installing puppet dictators, it was always a delusion.

Good to hear connection made with Robert Putnam’s research. We need to build community. Putnam himself was pretty bummed that his book seemed to mostly fall on deaf ears, but I think things could turn in his favor now.. or posthumously
