  This came out in late November 1981 and it was all over the airways. One of the first MTV giant videos. Nice reaction Stace

  Prom night, back in the 80s. I was driving my date in my parents' bigass Lincoln Continental Town Car. This song came on the radio and my date and I sang along, acting silly and doing our own choreography in tux and formal gown. It was a great time to be alive. A few years ago I learned that she had passed away after losing a painful battle with cancer. So this song is really bittersweet for me. RIP, Amy.

  This was HUGE that year. I was a nightclub DJ in Atlanta, and had to play this 3 times a night, every night. Instantly packed my dance floor. Good times for sure.

  How many synths?  ALL Of Them.  This a huge new wave statement, breaking away from the warmer sounds, and rock long-hairs of the 70s into the sci-fi, dystopian, counter-culture industrial threads created by 70s synth pioneers. This stuff defined such a unique sound, that you instantly labeled it 80s.

  I really like how this song tells a story of how two people have different views of their relationship. It's pretty common, a good lesson to be truthful and communicate with each other even if it's painful.

  Looking back you can say"that was sooo 80's" , but living through it I can say it was a revolution. Nothing like 80's music was ever made.We went from KISS and Boston to Talking Heads and B-52's. We really felt like our generation had it's own identity. It was ours. Then came Nirvana....and we said " we'll take that too"
