The part about scammers knowing your balance was unsettling — definitely a good reminder not to confirm any personal details just because the caller already knows a few things.

I never knew scammers could sound this convincing without actually having access to your bank account. Calling the bank back using a trusted number is a habit I'm definitely keeping.

This breakdown is honestly one of the most eye‑opening things I’ve seen about funeral costs. The way grief makes you overlook the small line items is exactly why they add up so fast.

The scary part is how much more believable a scam becomes when the caller already knows personal details like your balance. A lot of people would probably assume that means the caller is legitimate, so understanding how they get that information is really important.

This video explains the part of scams most people never understand — the caller knowing your balance doesn’t mean they’re legitimate, it just means your info was leaked somewhere.

It's scary how convincing these calls can sound when scammers already know personal details.. calling the bank back directly is such a simple but important habit.

That moment when the caller knows your balance is exactly where people get trapped. It feels like proof — but it’s really bait. The way Kate breaks it down here is spot on: real banks ask you to verify details, scammers use your details to verify themselves.

My granddad almost fell for something just like this last month. They had his name, his card details, and even knew where he banked, so he figured it had to be legit. Luckily he mentioned it to me before giving them any codes. Sharing this with my whole family so everyone stays on the same page.

As someone who works with seniors, I see how easily these professional-sounding scammers trick people.

The fact that scammers can know your name, bank, and even exact deposit amounts is really creepy. I’m sticking with the rule of hanging up and calling the bank directly instead of trusting whoever is on the other end.

Such an important message! Scammers can sound incredibly convincing, especially when they already know some of your personal information. The simple advice to hang up and call the bank directly is something everyone should remember. This could genuinely help someone avoid losing their savings.

Do not argue, verify details, or stay on the line. Scammers use real balance numbers from past data leaks or phishing to trick you.  Use the phone number printed on the back of your debit or credit card, or from your official bank statements. Do not use any number the caller gave you.
