15:48 personally I would leave it as it is. Patina doesn't in any way damage the coin and it adds character in my opinion. It seems to be getting a nice patina.

Great description of the surface enrichment of precious metals. Depletion gilding is common among Anglo-Saxon gold artifacts as well. It鈥檚 an excellent technique that doesn鈥檛 seem to be used much anymore.

I have a 50-27 BC copper coin from (Roman period) Larissa which has a wonderful smooth dark green surface. Athena & the galloping horse are worn but distinguishable. It's obviously not a valuable coin but I love the fact that it feels like a piece of change dropped somewhere sometime & that little has been done to it since then.

Excellent video on the details of coins and cleaning. I have an extremely large number of relatively hard to find coins from central Asia, but the vendors I bought them from were gracious enough to not to clean them. Someday I hope to hand them over to a professional. It is wonderful to enjoy the splendor and beauty of a coin just as it was minted, but there is also a guiling mystery of a coin coated in earth just enough to conceal the finer details.

That last coin, I would not even attempt to clean, as I don't think I know enough to do it properly. Does not look bad as it is.
THANK YOU for all you do.

Great video with much-needed explanation of ancient coining techniques as well as cleaning techniques. I once owned a Phillip the Arab silver coin with the stag on the reverse. I bought it at a bargain price (about what a generic Phillip the Arab silver coin would be) and sold it 2 or 3 years later for almost 5 times what I paid for it. And it was a truly beautiful coin, similar to the one you showed.
