Created by God (theistic view): The first life was created without prior karma.<br><br><br>2. Random emergence (naturalistic view): Consciousness arose through evolution, not karma.<br><br><br>3. Beginningless reality (Hindu/Buddhist view): There was never a first life; existence has always unfolded through an infinite causal chain.<br><br><br><br><br>---<br><br>The Deeper Question<br><br>Your question is really asking:<br><br>&gt; Can an infinite chain of causes exist without a first cause?<br><br><br><br>Indian philosophy generally says yes, at least for samsara.
