  &quot;Ungodly Germanic kingdom&quot; Was a sarcastic wordplay on &quot;holy Roman empire&quot; (because it had no relation to Rome anymore, and any opposed power might say that.)<br>On Switzerland never being invaded: Not quite. Napoleon overran Switzerland. Swiss neutrality basically was a reaction to that when Europe was re-organized after the defeat of Napoleon in the congress of Vienna.

  One of the weirdest places which he alluded to in the introduction is &quot;the Principality of Sealand&quot; its worth watching a video on this. It a decommissioned WW2 fort which was build to stop the Germans coming up the Thames to London. It was taken over &nbsp;in the 60s by a family who declared independence as it was conveniently just outside British Controlled waters at the time. <br><br> &nbsp;There is a British comedy sketch about the signing of the treaty of Westphalia, by Fry and Laurie where nobody wants Luxemburg but dont want anybody else to have it either lol

  Hey Jacob, as a Brit, from a small country compared to USA, wondered too....REALLY interesting post, thanks mate your awesome... only been to Monaco out of these, u would love it... just dont go shopping !! It&apos;s proper Chanel, Gucci etc.

  Well, some of these microstates once ruled half of the Europe, as a Czech, it&apos;s especially weird for me to see that Luxembourg (they ruled here for several centuries) is that small. Lichtenstein also owns half of castles in Europe....it doesn&apos;t mean they were necessarily bigger in the past, but their dynasties ruled to bigger empires o they were at least spreaded and owned a lot of stuff back in monarchy times.
