  I have a huge hand crochet bedspread made by my grandmother and I am in my 70's. I have the tablecloths the sheets and pillowcases.

  I have a plain linen towel that my grandmother spun and wove.  It's rather rough but completely hers and she brought it with her from Slovakia to the USA around 1900.  It is very special but there's no one left to appreciate it.

  My oldest piece of linen was stitched by my Grandmother when she was a girl, learning how to embroider. It has no signature or date. I also have several pieces I stitched when she was teaching me, also bearing no name or dates. I was seven when I began embroidering and doing cut work and drawn thread…I’m seventy-five now. I was given bleached flour sacks to work on, making table runners and anti-Macassar for the good furniture.<br><br>Every time she came to check my work, she would look at the back first, and if it wasn’t up to her standard, she would have me pick it out to where it was acceptable, and do it over. My backs were never as good as the fronts, but they were not allowed to be lumpy with knots, trying to cover up where I had gotten a knot in my thread that I couldn’t clear, or made a stitch too long trying to reach the next spot the colour I was using was needed instead of weaving it through stitches on the back, snipped it off, and wove it into the stitches where I would need it next. <br><br>I have most of the squares for a quilt of mythological creatures embellished with beads, rhinestones, and metallic threads. One day I will finish the last two squares, stitch it together, and quilt it. The squares are black and white like a chessboard, and the creatures represent friends who reminded me of the mythical beings. Various ones will be looking at each other, and some back to back.<br><br>I have a quilt my Grandmother embroidered for me with toys when I was born. It was used on my bed until I was too big for it. I embroidered laundry bags, tea &nbsp;towel bottom edges, collars and necklines of blouses and dresses, and many other everyday items, handkerchiefs and the edges of pillowcases. Very little escaped embellishment.🖤🇨🇦

  The linens I have are all made by family members, especially by my grandmother and my mother. They did very fine needlework and I&apos;m especially proud of &nbsp;a cut work table runner<br>work my grandmother made sound 1910 or so. My mother crocheted a beautiful queen bedspread for me with raised flowers and openwork sections. This was made in the late 70s. I don&apos;t intend to sell any of it, unless the grandchildren don&apos;t want it.

  I’ve kept the few linens that I remember from my childhood; things I remember my Mom and my Oma made. I also kept one-offs that were beautifully made. Even my Dad did some embroidery. He was a soldier and in hospital with jaundice as a young man and made some small pieces with insignia. I think I may even have one of those in my sewing box.

  i have a stack of linens worked by my great aunts in the early 20th. &nbsp;century. &nbsp;In the pile were 3 jug covers in very fine filet crochet - all jug covers with either blue beads or seashells to weigh them down. &nbsp;One is a kangaroo, another a kookaburra and the other is a koala. &nbsp;They were worked sideways so the motifs didn&apos;t get out of proportion. &nbsp;Very popular Australian designs from around WWI.
