  Saying &quot;I have no idea about the World War&quot; is the most suspicious thing you can say as a German, and I say that as a German myself. People are gonna end up thinking you were actually one of the camp guards at this rate :face-blue-smiling:

  It basically comes down to everyone being completely exhausted from the first World War and being willing to do anything to avoid repeating it, except the side that felt angriest about the outcome of that war and was suffering the consequences regardless. &nbsp;A lesson learned from WW2 was don&apos;t put your defeated foes in a position where war isn&apos;t much worse than peace. &nbsp;That lesson was applied well in post-WW2 Japan and Germany, but one could argue that the ongoing problems in the Middle East are the result of forgetting all this. &nbsp;That&apos;s why it&apos;s important to continue teaching this history.

You were treated like an animal and many allied troops who surrendered to the Japanese were often executed for sport or even the slightest offense.

  A lot of the people in charge during the 2nd war fought during the first. I imagine at least some still woke up in a cold sweat because some of the things that happened then (famously J.R.R. Tolkien fought at the Somme for example), so it&apos;s not really surprising they really didn&apos;t want to do it again.

  D-Day was the biggest Allied invasion in WW2. Hitler&apos;s invasion of Russia was the biggest ever, as far as I&apos;m aware, with 3 million soldiers. However, there was one almost as big in WW1, I believe it was the Saar Offensive. Something like 2 million Allied troops were there.
