Interestingly Emperor Otto was Otto of Brunswick who was John's nephew. Matilda, John's older sister, who married Henry the Lion of Saxony were Otto's parents. Otto was also the heir of Eleanor of Aquitaine because Otto was her favorite Grandson. That was the reason Phillip of France left Aquitaine alone while Eleanor lived as she told Philip that Otto not John was her heir, but Otto relinquished his claim on Aquitaine to John after he got the offer to become Emperor of the Romans.

The first born son was raised to be King, younger sons were raised for the church. Richard, his older brother, had no interest in ruling England, which is why he scarpered off abroad as often as he could using Holy wars as an excuse. John was thrown in at the deep end, he was the place marker until his brother returned. The machinations of their mother didn't help him one little bit.

When the English subjects in Philadelphia created the Declaration of Independence and then the US Constitution they full knew the history that taught 'IT IS NOT A MATTER IF, BUT A MATTER OF WHEN" A government would turn on its own people.
