  Oh man,  this is insane!!!!   I’m glad we were never like that.  We can afford it and we still think it isn’t worth it and we stopped going because the service went down and the costs kept going up.

  This doesn&apos;t just apply to Disneyland, though that&apos;s the most flagrant example. I know a guy and his wife who probably spend 10s of 1000s each year conservatively on comic-con type events and elaborate &quot;cosplay&quot; outfits. This<br>started becoming a thing in the 90s to invest in experiences rather than things, and the phenomenon really grew from there. <br>Materialism, consumerism and status seeking are a problem for our entire species, no doubt about it but if you ever find yourself in a tight spot and need to liquidate some assets for something like a major repair, you can&apos;t exactly cash in your trip to Bora Bora and buy a new AC system when the old one croaks in the middle of summer. These days they&apos;re not even experiencing these trips firsthand anyway, but through their iPhones in pursuit of that IG-worthy shot.
