  As a future indie game developer the Splatoon character designs are my biggest inspiration for the type of characters I want to create from their Perfect Japanese Pop Style aesthetics.

  Also, don't be afraid to play around with ears and eye masks! Even in Inklings alone, ears can range from Frye's super-long ears to Pearl's almost-nonexistent ones. Inkling's eye masks can even be separated, like Namida from Squid Squad, and eyelashes can match the ink color, like Frye (why do I keep citing Frye as an example). And don't even get me started on fingertips, as both Inklings (Frye again) and Octolings (literally every Octoling) can have dyed fingertips, and they can even be dyed different colors (Warabi from Diss-Pair). There's so much variation in just canon alone, so it's okay if your OC deviates a bit from the player model.

  One thing I've learned from my art and graphic design classes is that if you're still struggling to come up with an idea or solution, don't be afraid to go out and find them yourself! A part of the process when creating/ designing is taking inspiration from reality - especially in a world where we're so focused on getting answers and ideas from devices. Sometimes you just gotta touch grass to have that spark of genius.

  I needed a raver/DJ/EDM producer-type character for a splatband I was designing, and initially I was going to make them an octoling but then I discovered those super pretty red and black flatworms that are shaped kind of like sound waves or waveforms in a music software and it was so PERFECT the shape of the worm translated so well into long wavy hair i love my stupid worm dj

  One of my favorite things to do is to try and interpret human hair into Splatoon hair, especially natural black hairstyles. It&apos;s fun and a neat way to try and make new characters

  Also!! Since the Grandfest gear, we know hair-tentacle extensions are a thing. Frye&apos;s gear is definitely squid tentacle, since cuz of the pattern. Now the ways to &quot;break the canon rules&quot; on head limb number are more numerous with &quot;canon ways to break the rules&quot;.

  Something else I realized after making my own splat ocs is that splatfest is genuinely an incredible tool for expanding your characters&apos; personalitys. &nbsp;Especially when using pre existing themes, there&apos;s core parts of my guys that only exsist bc someone needed to fit into a team which I think is neat. &nbsp;Like I genuinely have thought about assigning my non splatoon ocs splatfest teams to see how it could further develop their characters!
