  I like the idea that “people still live here” is less “hey people still go about their lives here” as one might use the word live to refer to people living in a town or a city but rather “people live on here” as in “those who passed on are still alive here” like an afterlife.

  Something that Kane does a lot with his series that I find is really effective is giving the protagonist a clear destination to run to and then having them pursued by something that is only slightly faster than them. I tend to find the tension that this creates to be generally be better at building terror than the usual approach of “oh, you saw the spooky creature? Well it’s [-1] feet away from you now.”

  Reddit is such a strange coin to me cause on one side you have a very strange cancerous tumor and the other side is the most helpful and problem solving tool at your disposal. You KNOW you can&apos;t solve something if someone on reddit hasn&apos;t discussed it at some point

Also, the Japanese crossing signal isn&apos;t the sheperd. I&apos;m not sure what it is.<br><br>But the shepherd himself looks like Death. It looks like he&apos;s got a skull head, and his shepherd hook is very evocative of Death&apos;s scythe.

  I feel like the phrase of “people still live here” could be connected to the Wampanoag related objects. Native American people are often treated as a thing of the past, and some schools used to legitimately teach that they’d all died out- but they haven’t, nor have their practices. The Wampanoag tribe is still around today, with a population of 3,841 as of 2023. Maybe Clive himself is a part of the tribe?

  It&apos;s so interesting that the shepherd&apos;s lackey, the one who takes people for punishment, is a crossing sign, either crossing to the metaphorical &quot;other side&quot; but also as a blaring warning sign of something dangerous, trying to scare others away with it&apos;s flashing lights and blaring noise. But in the real life portions, it looks just like anything else, a bit out of place, sure, but it&apos;s not a reminder like it was, just a poor, beaten down thing, trying to help
