Violin (with a confident smile):
"Ahem! Let’s be honest, everyone. I’m the star. The lead. The soprano voice. I sing the melodies that bring people to tears! What would an orchestra be without me?"

Viola (crosses arms):
"Oh please, Violin. You’re just loud and high-pitched. I’m the warm soul in the middle, the rich harmony that holds everything together. Without me, your squeaky drama would fall flat."

Double Bass (deep, booming voice):
"Both of you are cute. But I am the foundation. The heartbeat. I carry the entire orchestra on my back. Every rhythm, every pulse — that's me. Without the bass, there is no depth."

Violin (rolling eyes):
"Depth? Maybe. But you're slow, dear Bass. You’re not exactly nimble."

Viola:
"And I bet people forget you're even there sometimes."

Double Bass (chuckling):
"Better to be forgotten than mistaken for a small violin, Viola."

Viola:
"Low blow."

Cello (with a calm, resonant voice):
"Can I speak now?"

Violin, Viola, and Bass:(silence)

Cello (smiling):
"You all make great points. Violin, you bring soaring highs. Viola, your harmonies are lush. Bass, your depth is powerful. But tell me... who can do all of it?"

Violin:
"What do you mean?"

Cello:
"I can sing like you, Violin — smooth, high, lyrical. I can echo the melancholy of the Viola with even greater emotion. I can hold my own in the low end, like Bass, with power and gravitas."

Double Bass (grumbling):
"You're not that low."

Cello:
True, but with a C-extension or a 5th low B string, I can reach your depths, Bass. And some of us even take on six strings now — adding a high E string from the violin on top, and a low F# or B string from the double bass below. That gives me the ability to sing like Violin and rumble like Bass — all in one body. Think about that.

Viola (eyes wide):
"So… you can sound like all of us?"

Cello (nodding):
"Exactly. I’m the shapeshifter. The storyteller. I can weep, whisper, laugh, or thunder. I’m not just an instrument — I’m a universe of voices."

Violin:
"Well... that’s poetic."

Double Bass (with reluctant respect):
"You do sit right in the center. You’ve got range… and soul."

Viola:
"And everyone loves the cello solos. You're like the emotional heart of the orchestra."

Cello (graciously):
"Let’s just say I’m a little bit of each of you… and proud of it. Together, we create magic. But if we had to crown a most versatile one…"
(pauses, smirking)

"Let the cello carry that tune."

All (laughing):
"Fair enough, Cello. Fair enough."🤣🤣

I love the way they argue about the best instrument. It's so obvious how much they love what they're doing. And I agree with the cellist - a cello is like a human being.

From a very early age, I gravitated towards the cello, because of the warm sounds and it's a pretty cool instrument and it closely resembles the human voice at times. I tried to learn the violin, but I have fat fingers and I was also discouraged by a very snobby teacher who criticized my instrument very early in life. He told me never to come back until I have a real instrument. I was given a very cheap violin by a friend and I spent some money getting it fixed up, I replaced the sound post, got a new bridge, and new stings and he refused to teach me. I eventually gave the instrument away and it's probably playing in some symphony in Toronto. Today I have 3 cellos (2 acoustic and 1 electric).

The Cello truely is the best of them. If you take 20 Cellos, you have a viable orchestra which can play quite "normal sounding" music. That is not the case with 20 of the other competitors.

    I agree!
As a violist myself, there are so many things the others can do that I can't. But the same goes the other way around. I can do many things that they can't. And there is just something missing in an orchestra without violas.

I play bass guitar, and I love it, but I would love to learn to play double bass as well; with a bow and fingers. I would say my favorite is the double bass, those low notes are so deep, smooth, and moving. All of the instruments have their place; there is no "best", but for me nothing beats bass.

Cello has highs and lows, but bass and violin are usually stuck doing one of those two and not both.

We had a violinist and cellist at our wedding. The viola and bass support those.

Viola and double bass. I prefer not to stand out. But between viola and double bass; I choose viola as it is smaller.

If I am going for the double bass, then I'll go with bass guitar just for the mobility/portability. Both double bass and electric guitar uses E-A-D-G if I am not mistaken. And both instruments uses bass clef on sheet music.
