Rookie Josue DePaula has emerged as a strong left-handed bat off the bench — 8-for-28 with a homer, three doubles, 10 walks and just four strikeouts (.974 OPS) — and looks like a near-lock for the postseason roster. DMAC lays out the roster-eligibility loophole MLB allows for a player added to the 40-man after September 1: Josue DePaula would likely replace injured catcher Dalton Rushing to make the postseason roster. Bench Comparison — Alex Freeland (better hitter, but no clear postseason role), Hyeseong Kim (speed/defense, elite sprint speed), and Alex Call (above-average runner, hits lefties well) — for the final spot(s). Shohei Ohtani injury update: Shohei targets return is Wednesday, Sept. 23 vs. the Padres; he's taken batting-machine swings and run the bases with no setbacks, but won't get a rehab assignment and is expected to DH exclusively in October. Debate over Game 1 starter: Yoshinobu Yamamoto vs. Tarik Skubal — DMAC argues Skubal starting Game 1 (with Yamamoto in Game 2) better sets up rest for a potential seven-game series, similar to the 2025 NLCS Snell/Yamamoto sequencing. Health/performance questions flagged: Blake Snell's groin tightness (exited Sept. 16 start after one inning) and Kyle Tucker's recent surge (15-for-35, .429 average, 5 HR since September 9). Padres are red-hot since the All-Star break (39-21, tied for MLB's best record) and have passed the Phillies for the top NL Wild Card spot, setting up a potentially tough draw for LA in the NLDS. The Walk Off - Josue DePaula's path to the Dodgers: The COVID-19 shutdown of NY high school baseball led him to move to his father's native Dominican Republic, gain citizenship, and sign as an international free agent for under $400,000 in January 2022.
