22:59 back then there wasn't a lot women could do. It was over populated, and so far all of the women were divorced or widowed,, & due to these factors & how poor everyone was in that area, sex work was about the only way these women had to make $.

I read about Jack the ripper as a small child (too young to learn about serial killers but I was a weird kid). He started my fascination for true crime/serial killers. It must have been so shitty to not have phones or cars to get help quickly. I'll probably edit this comment as I go because I've studied this case a lot (I was also a psychology / criminal justice major) & am still fascinated by it. I just want to see what else the video has to say before I comment more. They always thought he was a Dr of some sort due to his knowledge of the human body. I always look forward to your uploads, between true crime & BTS combined with your charm & intelligence, you're like my perfect channel, I know I'll enjoy whatever you're uploading!
💜
Eta: the letters would help the newspaper & the journalist who published them. The ones who received the letters would be the only newspaper who had access to them, it'd be an exclusive & everyone would buy that paper for the scoop
My bday is 8 days after yours! You're a Scorpio? 😊
Eta: a quarter to 11 is 1045
Modus operandi, or the M. Hey just a recommendation for true crime is a channel called Rotten Mango. She covers all sorts of events. Her recent ones about the sewol incident and the Halloween itawon tragedy go in so much depth and I’m interested to see your input.

The best theory i've heard is that no one committed all five murders and some may well have been copycat killings.

Lemmino is a great channel. Casual Criminalist does deep dives in true crime too and is fun. He also has other channels, like Side Projects, Today I Found Out, Into the Shadows, etc. to dive into information on a variety of other topics. If you're into history and little informative episodes and mini-series, Extra History is great too. And now, I'll stop nerding out. I feel like there's so much cool content out there. I love the BTS content and that's how I found you; this is cool too and I could totally see Curious Loui being a whole thing for you.

You have to remember the time period this all took place in. Women weren't allowed to work many types of jobs, especially if they had a bad reputation as a single mother. In a lot of those cases, the women felt that prostitution was the only job available to them. Also, mental Healthcare didn't really exist at the time, or if it did, the treatments were horrible things like electroshock therapy or lobotomies. People who were institutionalized weren't sent away for treatment; they were locked up for the safety or convenience of the people outside.

I always wondered if this whole "Who's Jack the Ripper?" thing wasn't just a "Clue" situation. Like the 1985 movie, Clue, there were multiple murderers, which why it was so hard to figure out who killed them all, until the end, when it was all revealed. Because, there was literally only sparse connections between the victims and the people interviewed as either eyewitnesses or suspects.
Charles Lechmere could have only killed the first one and Robert Paul spooked him into never killing anyone else, or he would be caught. So he stopped after that first one.
Joseph Barnett probably only killed his girlfriend in her own place because he was pissed at her for turning him down and being a hooker on the street.
John Richardson could have been lying and somehow hid any evidence connecting him to the woman's murder, but being the only person within minutes and feet from where the woman ended up dead, I wouldn't put it past him.
Tumblety was obviously a red herring. He was much too obvious and flamboyant of a character to EVER slip through the cracks of London's East End without someone raising an eyebrow at how weird he was. He was VERY noticeable.
Not sure about who could have gotten Catherine Eddowes. It could have been one of the soldiers or sailors in the area who were stationed at the nearby base or their ship docked in the harbor for the time being, and then were transferred or got shipped out from there somewhere else.
I never thought Aaron Kozminski was a real suspect. He just didn't FEEL like he'd be sneaky enough. Kind of like Tumblety, but in a more insane way, he would draw attention and therefore the cops to his craziness.

There is a picture of Mary Jane Kelly's murder scene. Very very easy to find. DO NOT LOOK IT UP!
but Squeebers I hear you thinking I can handle gore
I thought so too. Yesterday, I was watching someone else react to this. I had watched this video a few years back. I decided to look up the photo. After all, I had seen horriffic things before. This is a harrowing photograph. Even more so when you get to the color corrected version.
I looked at it on break at work. I was walking down the hall at work after my break and the image was flashing in my mind. Almost to the point where I could see it overlaying reality. (I have never had that happen before)
And last night as it got dark, I started feeling paranoia. I drew the curtains early. And as I got ready to brush my teeth and go to bed, I felt even more paranoia glancing out the windows in my apartment that have no curtains. I had all my lights on in my apartment. And turned them off one by one leading back to my nedroom. Turning off that last bedroom light sent me flying to my bed and getting under the covers.
Even still. I am still seeing it in my mind today. I can only hope that it fades over time!
DO NOT LOOK AT THAT PHOTO!

56:56 no. Especially back then. Mental issues usually never go away. And treatments, even now, aren't that effective.
