“Golden Brown” by The Stranglers refers to drugs. Reliable sources, as well as interviews with members of the band, confirm that the song’s meaning includes references to heroin use. Hugh Cornwell, the band’s lyricist and singer, has explicitly stated that “Golden Brown” works on two levels: it is about both heroin and a Mediterranean girlfriend he had at the time. Cornwell explained that both brought him pleasurable experiences, which are reflected in the lyrics’ double meaning.

Drugs would suck today, bc today sucks. In the 80s and 90s they were great, there was accidental and happenstance meetings and rendezvous, but not today. For example, dropping by someone's house today without calling or texting first is seen as rude. I am so lucky to have been a kid in the 80s and 90s, to have done my drugs, and grown out of it by Y2K

I know the lyrics are basically just "drugs drugs drug things" but man this sound has me hooked I just make up an alternative meaning in my head

I just found this song yesterday. And it’s one of my favorites now. And it was recorded the year I was born.
