  From 2x OEF vet: concur HR's analysis of Afghanistan. Caveat: I don't have a "30,000 ft" view, only what my battalion was doing where it was doing it. Like HR has encouraged, I am extremely proud of the professionalism--and the outcomes--achieved in our AO while we were there. That especially applies to the ANA/ANP partners we were working with, particularly our second deployment. When we arrived, the ANP felt defeated and fatalistic. When we left (only!) six months later they were taking the fight to the enemy and were kind of glad to see us go--they were doing that well, especially in terms of their confidence. Our interactions with the local Afghan civilians were parallel to this. One village in particular grew so close to the ANP posted there they treated them like "Johnny Comes Marching Home" all the time, similar to that vignette of the old lady chasing away the bomb emplacer with her broom. "Premature departure" pretty much captures the defeat we brought on ourselves.

  Thank you.  I am looking forward to this.  As I recall,  LTG mcmaster was a major leader in coin, including heading tf134 in afg.  Id be especially interested to hear how relevant he thought irgc was to the insurgency, especially providing a safe haven.  Looking forward to his look backwards

  HR’s strategic and moral clarity are SO refreshing and in much need among the current US Federal administration. I reject the intellectually lazy pejorative proffered by his Woke critics that Gen. McMaster is a warmonger. He’s a clear eyed and courageous realist who knows the orientation of ‘True North’. Stick that in your Progressive hash pipe and smoke it.

  Hard to believe the US was the key author of the UN Charter, which in itself was evolved from the Nuremberg Principles….CIA Coup in Venezuela, the U.S. military following unlawful orders in the extrajudicial murders taking place in the Caribbean and Pacific, Trump’s unprovoked, sneak attack on Iran while in the middle of ongoing negotiations.
