Some lore about this infection. What I find truly horrifying about this particular infection is when people are first infected as a runner, they are completely conscious and aware of their actions but can’t control themselves (as the fungus has taken over their bodily functions) so whenever you see or hear the infected in the game or in the show moaning/groaning in pain or sometimes talking, they are basically trapped in their own body and have no control over anything they do.

"The government are all nazis!" [looks around in 2025] Dammit, can't argue that one. Anyway, that 3rd episode is a masterclass in television.

HBO has extras where the showrunners and actors talk about the show... I forget who, might have been Neil, said (paraphrasing) "we polled a bunch of people about the end, and it was about 50-50 save Ellie or save humanity, with one exception. Fathers. Fathers were 95% save Ellie." Bad paraphrase, but that's the jist of Joel.

In the middle of this shootout hearing “that’s a chunky elephant” cracked me up!😂

What's fun about this show, is I think a lot of first time watchers are worried about it potentially being horror instead of being worried about having their hearts ripped out on an episodely basis 😅

The clicking you heard was the deer's horns against the branches, and maybe hooves against rocks.

The episode one opening, when Sara's teacher said "Homework is due at end of class tomorrow", I have seen speculation that the teacher was beginning to show early stage infection from tainted food. Like the student with the watch twitch in the same class.

1:53:37 Pretty sure the clicking was from the deer's antlers. It sounds like that when they rub them on things.
