When I toured Machu Picchu 15 years ago I got the watered down version of Inca creating the site. This is the first time hearing about a pre-Inca civilization. It makes perfect sense.

As an architect this reminds me a lot of concrete casting which can be textured even poured into bags, the problem it all seems to be made out of actual stone

Since the "nubs" extend from the stone surface, to create one you need to REMOVE the adjacent surface material on the entire face of the monolith to create it!

I spent 5 days in Ollantaytambo in October, 2025 and was amazed at all of the amazing stonework, also that the Inca built structures are still in place and being used today.
