“One third of British parents have never spoken to their children.” I thought that was the end of the sentence

Even assuming the child is asking "inappropriate" questions: age appropriate education around reproductive health is vital to protecting children from abuse. It also, yknow, prepares them to be an adult someday.

This reminds me of that clip from some right wing street interviewer at a pride parade who asked a guy "How many genders are there?" and the guy without missing a beat is like; "I don't know, I just got here." Never fails to crack me up

    My grandson is 17 now.
When he was 3: "Boys can't marry boys."
Me: "Sure they can. I know some who did."
Him: "Oh."
Him, age 7: "What's lesbians?"
Me: "Girls who fall in love with girls instead of boys."
Him: "OK. Do you still have Clash of Clans on your phone?"

My mom reacted really bad when I came out to her, but deep inside she wanted to be supportive, so she went to therapy and to her friends houses to express her feelings, it took a few weeks, but she apologized and is now a very proud mom of her lesbian daughter and I'm very proud of her, mind you she grew up in a small city in latam, a very poor family and didn't concluded her studies, and yet she made what she could to make me feel loved, even if she was disappointed somehow. All of this happened 10 years ago and she is definitely my best friend ❤

I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand that talking about a queer couple is no more sexual than talking about a straight couple. Like, should we all stop talking to kids about straight weddings? We all know what's supposed to happen on the wedding night! So inappropriate! 🙄

Thank you for tackling this. I teach 7 year olds. Little kids hear "gay" in a negative context and assume it means something horrible. Like a swear word. By the time their parents talk to them about it, they've already named a stall in the school restrooms as the gay stall, said repeatedly that their worst subject is gay, and muttered that homework is gay. It's strange that parents think they can hold off on these conversations in order to hold onto their innocence. It's really just limiting their accurate vocabulary.

When my now 22yr old was 16 he jokingly sat us down to come out as straight. 😂 Because of my family's history/ homophobia we started EARLY to make sure our kids knew that we would love them no matter who they love. He was totally joking, but he said "I know it might be a disappointment, but I'm straight. But if it makes ya feel any better, my best friend is gay!" And he is another wonderful straight ally like us🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

I wish I remembered the book I used to read my children when they were little, it was about families. It had families with two mothers, families with two fathers, kids being raised by grandparents. It was a book saying that every family is different, but still a family. My youngest son is gay and didn’t even come out to me just told me he had a boyfriend. He knew he’d have no issues . I don’t think there are enough books of this type. I did see a board book come out for Mother’s Day this year (I’m Canadian) that was called “My Mommies love me!” I was happy to see that.

Knowing you'll never hear this from your parents is quite a difficult pill to swallow.
