  You have two options if you wish to see if this will work in your area.  1)  Easiest test is simply to see how many nights dew forms on surfaces outside over night .  Or 2) if you want to check for an area you don't have access to pull up a graph of air temps and dew point temp for the target area ( Weather Underground's website should provide what you need) - your interested in the length of time the air temp is at least at or below the dew point temp as it's at this point condensation forms  - in northern continental areas this will often be a very short window of time if at all ( just looking in my area and there will only be two days out of the next ten) - to make up for a short window of productivity you have to increase the screen size considerably - don't rely on the images shown in this video - the amount produced will be small and as mentioned it's not going to be consistent ( winter and most of summer will likely be zero, fall will be your highest ) - the reason the commercial units work ( and cost so much) is that they chill the 'net' surface  to the dew point which results in condensation even when the air temp is above the local dew point ( the other option is 'hydrogel' which is very new tech. doesn't need a power source and I don't believe available to the public - believe MIT has a paper on it)

  I see in the comments, people saying 'boil the water' before drinking or 'use copper instead of plastic' because copper kills bacteria. That may be helpful information. BUT we live in Queensland Australia where a large percentage of people have rainwater tanks for their drinking water (as well as shower water etc). We didn't have any kind of filtration in over 14 years of use. We're in our 70's but our body's easily coped with any bacteria. We don't have particularly strong stomachs but maybe growing up (in the UK) playing in the dirt, eating without washing our hands (as kids) etc helped our body's develop so it can fight off infections. On the very rare occasion we had Cryptosporidium, a microscopic parasite that causes a diarrheal illness known as cryptosporidiosis, we just mixed up a mugful of Hydrated Lime (cheap from a garden centre) and water and after stirring, tipped that into our 22,000 ltr tanks. The next morning, any Cryptosporidium problems were gone.
