I remember coming back to Sydney from a 6 month stay in Perth, and driving across the Nullarbor. We left Kalgoorlie at around 3 pm, and hit the 90 mile straight in the middle of the night. My husband woke me up, cause he thought he was seeing things! You see, he'd spotted these lights - way, WAY, ahead, in the distance - and they were slowly, but surely, getting bigger.
After about 45 mins, a massive semi trailer FINALLY roared past.
THAT is what he could see coming!

When I was a child the Eyre hwy was gravel. So many old cars travelled that rough road and made it but many didn’t.

One fact that amazed me was learning that the early telegraph in Australia only ran on a single cable. Usually there would need to be two cables for it to work. However, due to the high iron content in the Autralian soil only a single cable is needed as the other cables role is replaced by the iron in the soil.

I was a Production Manager at a salt farm, producing 200,000 tonnes of salt annually. The pink is beta carotene "sunscreen" produced by an organism called Daneliela.

Lake Ayre attracts thousands of Asian migratory birds when it has water. They don't come when there is no water. Nobody knows how they know when the water is there.
